Audit in Progress is the third studio album by the San Diego, California rock band Hot Snakes, released in 2004 by Swami Records. It was recorded in a similar manner to the band's previous two albums, with guitarist John Reis taking time off from his main band Rocket From the Crypt. In comparison to the band's previous albums, Audit in Progress is more aggressive and primal.

Hot Snakes essentially began as a "side project" in 1999 while Reis was taking time off from Rocket from the Crypt, who were in between record labels and had lost their longtime drummer Atom Willard. Hot Snakes originated when Reis recorded a batch of songs with The Delta 72 drummer Jason Kourkounis, then contacted former bandmate Froberg to contribute vocals to the tracks. The album Audit in Progress was released and the band extensively toured the USA, as well as Europe and Australia. While on tour in the United Kingdom that Fall, the band recorded several songs for BBC radio at British DJ John Peel's recording studio.

It's difficult to discuss Hot Snakes critically without sounding obvious. It isn't "talking" music. Their Peel session consists of two songs from their debut, Automatic Midnight, and two from their latest LP, Audit in Progress, which sound like the album versions with a slightly rawer edge. Strangely absent are any tunes from their sophomore record, Suicide Invoice, which many regard as their finest. While the EP doesn't reveal anything about Hot Snakes, it confirms their reputation as a remarkably vigorous live band.
Hot Snakes would be one of the last groups to record such a session, as Peel died shortly afterwards. It is also the only Hot Snakes release not to feature artwork created by singer/guitarist Rick Froberg. The EP includes two songs from the band's first album Automatic Midnight and two from their third and final studio album Audit in Progress, all performed live in a studio setting.
