Kyle Hall - From Joy As an artist and a person, Kyle Hall grew up fast. He released his first 12-inch at the age of 16, and was quickly hailed as Detroit's next great house producer, endorsed by local icons like Theo Parrish and Omar-S. By the time we profiled him in 2009, he'd produced dozens of tracks, launched his own label (Wild Oats) and was getting booked around the world. Hall's second album, From Joy, harks back to simpler times. It collects eight recordings from before 2010, when he was still a teenager living at his dad's place, free to spend countless hours making tracks in the basement. The house was on Joy Street in Detroit, but the "joy" in the title refers to more than that. For me, the idea of joy is an individual's experience of freedom," Hall recently told The Fader.
From Joy (CD, Album, Dig). referencing From Joy, 3xLP, Album, WO-18K. This album takes me back to late 90's and early 00' when electronic music had a soulful edge, from house to brokenbeat, its all here but with a refreshing approach to the present and with an eye on the future. An absolut storm of an album and as timeless as it can get. Reply Notify me 3 Helpful. This is the best album I've heard in forever. My expectations were high and they were exceeded. Discreet producer Kyle Hall gives rare interviews, but that doesn't mean he has nothing to say. The motivation behind his latest album was clearly formulated: "We as people tend to be at our most honest and present in our childhood. From Joy serves as a mechanism and reminder to return to one's youthful, energetic state
A triple LP entitled From Joy by Kyle Hall. The title is derived from the idea of finding a way to live life in a state of presence, detaching oneself from the mental, self imposed narratives echoed by society s traditions and judgements. We as people tend to be at our most honest and present in our childhood, so in some ways From Joy serves as a mechanism and reminder to return to one s youthful energetic state. The 8- track album, all produced before 2010, is a homage to where Kyle lived at the time in his father s basement on the westside of Detroit on Joy Rd.
KYLE HALL: I'm not sure where the delineation is. I’m not a big fan of attaching waves or cohorts to artists. It's hard to call, really. How did From Joy come to be? I revisited some of my old music, compiled a list of tracks that vibe together, and then the whole thing started to make sense when I started to channel life experience through the album. The jazz influence is heavily felt on this record. Could you tell me a bit about your family’s jazz background?
