Sir Barry Alan Crompton Gibb, CBE (born 1 September 1946) is an English singer, songwriter, musician and record producer who rose to worldwide fame as a co-founder of the group the Bee Gees, one of the most commercially successful groups in the history of popular music. With his younger brothers, twins Robin and Maurice Gibb, he formed a songwriting partnership beginning in 1955.
What sets this album above others is that there is not a bad cut on the album, and Barry's vocals are particularly strong and heartfelt. Although most of the cuts deal with the usual subject of love and particularly love lost, superb eye for detail in the arrangements of the songs give them added life. Adding a few songs with classic singalong melodies ("Sweetheart" and "Don't Forget to Remember") certainly doesn't hurt the cause. All in all, this is a fine album that cements the Brothers Gibb's reputation as superior pop songwriters and craftsmen.
Maurice Ernest Gibb CBE (/ˈmɒrɪs/; 22 December 1949 – 12 January 2003) was a British musician, singer, songwriter, and record producer, who achieved fame as a member of the pop group Bee Gees. Although his brothers Barry and Robin Gibb were the group's main lead singers, most of their albums included at least one or two compositions by Maurice, including "Lay It on Me", "Country Woman", and "On Time". The Bee Gees were one of the most successful rock-pop groups ever.
Cucumber Castle was the last Bee Gees album with drummer Colin Petersen, who was fired during the recording of the album. Pentangle drummer Terry Cox played on the remaining tracks. This album contained the hit single "Don't Forget to Remember" which hit No. 2 in the UK in August 1969, going virtually head to head with Robin Gibb's solo single "Saved by the Bell", which had reached number No. 2 the previous month. Since Robin left, Barry and I are a lot closer, we're working much more together.
Although Robin is not featured on this CD, Barry & Maurice do a fantastic job of songs that remind us of earlier recordings of all three brothers. Featured songs that personally pull at my heartstrings are: "Then You Left Me", "Bury Me Down By The River" and "Turning Tide". If you haven't yet heard this CD, now is the time!

Cucumber Castle (1970) is the only Bee Gees record to not feature Robin Gibb, who, at the time, was working on a solo album. The name Cucumber Castle should be familiar to Bee Gees’ fans: it’s also the title of a song on Bee Gees 1st and the name of their 1970 television special. The hour-long comedy, originally aired on the BBC, featured brothers Barry and Maurice Gibb as the two sparring sons of a king, hence the medieval-inspired garb they sport on the album’s cover. The album itself features a collection of tracks with country, soul and folk influences
SINKING SHIPS Barry Gibb, Robin Gibb, Maurice Gibb B side by Bee Gees, January 1968. WHEN THINGS GO WRONG Barry Gibb, Robin Gibb, Maurice Gibb no record. It also has three Bill Shepherd orchestral arrangements of ‘Turn of the Century’ (to the same Bee Gees tracks), an important song as the opening of the album, a variant mix of ‘Cucumber Castle’, and ‘Mr Wallor’s Wailing Wall’ with fewer sound effects than on The Studio Albums 1967-1968. It does not contain ‘New York Mining Disaster 1941’, probably because it was still not in a satisfactory state.
