Jaguar signed the deal with Neat Records and replaced Reiss with Paul Merrell, former vocalist from the band Stormtrooper, just in time for the recording of the single "Axe Crazy", which was released later in 1982. After intensive touring, the following year in June 1983 Jaguar released their first debut album, Power Games, which was a success with its no-nonsense high-speed approach. For 1982, "Axe Crazy" was pretty damn aggressive and extreme, at least by the standards of metal at the time. But this wasn't just pure aggression, there's quite a bit of tunefulness here too. Singer Paul Merrell has an imposing and powerful voice, but his delivery and tone is actually pretty sweet and radio-ready. As far as singles that never made it onto an album go, "Axe Crazy" would make a good addition to anyone's collection, and is a great example of a precursor to the more extreme metal bands that begin popping up stateside in the next few years.
