Vestigial is a dark ambient project from Italy. In the vein of Inade, Land:Fire, Lustmord and Loki Foundation outfits, this mysterious act propels the listener into an insane abyss filled with nightmarish soundscapes and experimental bliss. Tweaked out drones dominate the sound as odd samples float in and out with caustic distorted aural fluctuations full of reverbered vocals and treated noises.

Lo!‘s 3rd full length album VESTIGIAL is next level. The songs are well-crafted and have a larger scope, the sound is heavy yet organic, there is a great harmonic density behind the stupefyingly heavy riffs and the band sounds tighter than ever before. One of the reasons might be that drummer Adrian Griffin, who had spent the last 7 years in Asia, moved back to Australia. This time we had much more time to all be together as a band andreally work on the songs properly instead of the last minute rush that usually happens.

At times explosive (Butcher Birds) and also more expansive in terms of textures and dynamics (The Worm’s Lament), Vestigial is full of confidence, head-cracking riffs and crazy time changes. Adrian especially impresses and his performance on the labyrinthine Glutton could rival Converge/Mutoid Man tub-thumper Ben Koller for power and dexterity.
