The early Marais and Miranda records were dominated by the Bushveld Band sound pioneered in Marais's solo albums, which featured classical guitar, wind instruments, and accordion accompaniment. These early albums included Songs of Many Lands (1949), Josef Marais and Miranda (1950), Songs of the South African Veld (1952), and Marais and Miranda in Person (1955). Though most of their material was South African, the couple peppered their performances with various European folk songs
Joseph Pessach (November 17, 1905 in Sir Lowry's Pass Village – April 27, 1978 in Los Angeles), better known by his stage name Josef Marais, was a folk-singer from South Africa. In 1945, he started singing with Rosa de Miranda, a Dutch immigrant with whom he had worked for a few years.
Josef Marais sings South African traditional folk ballads and original songs. This is one of fifteen tunes from an early album set of 78 rpm records on the DECCA label, released in 1946. This is his third album, but his first teamed with Miranda. She sings in only three of the fifteen tunes presented in this album. Wasn't long before they married and went on to perform before sold out audiences for the next 30 years. These are pretty much the original cuts of these songs, though many were re-recorded in the 1950s and 1960s with large orchestras
