Because Bob Dylan is so hugely and quixotically himself, he is able to fill all the space the talking blues affords with unmistakable originality. In this piece, for example, he has singularly distilled the way we all wish away our end, thermonuclear or "natural. This album, in sum, is the protean Bob Dylan as of the time of the recording. By the next recording, there will be more new songs and insights and experiences.
Bob Dylan is the debut studio album by American singer-songwriter Bob Dylan, released on March 19, 1962 by Columbia Records. Produced by Columbia's legendary talent scout John H. Hammond, who signed Dylan to the label, the album features folk standards, plus two original compositions, "Talkin' New York" and "Song to Woody".
About The Freewheelin’ Bob Dylan. Following the commercial and critical failure that was his self-titled debut, a 21-year old Bob Dylan was nearly dropped from Columbia Records. John Hammond, who got Dylan signed to the label however, defended him every chance he got. He was determined that his second album would be a success, despite many label heads arguing otherwise.
The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan reached number 22 in the US (eventually going platinum), and became a number-one album in the UK in 1964. In 2003, the album was ranked number 97 on Rolling Stone Magazine's list of the 500 greatest albums of all time. In 2002, Freewheelin' was one of the first 50 recordings chosen by the Library of Congress to be added to the National Recording Registry. 6] Dylan acknowledged her influence when he told an interviewer: "Suze was into this equality-freedom thing long before I was. I checked out the songs with he. Dylan's relationship with Rotolo also provided an important emotional dynamic in the composition of the Freewheelin' album. After six months of living with Dylan, Rotolo agreed to her mother's proposal that she travel to Italy to study art. Dylan missed her and wrote long letters to her conveying his hope that she would return soon to New York
Bob Dylan jumps at this chance and go with her in the studios. At one point, he shows to Caroline Hester a song that he composed, and that’s precisely at this moment that John H. Hammond notices him and asks him to sign a contract. Dylan, who agreed of course, records his first eponymous album in 1962. It contains many covers, but two original tracks too. The album doesn’t sell so much, but the contract is not broken, and Dylan comes back with a second album
It's hard to overestimate the importance of The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan, the record that firmly established Dylan as an unparalleled songwriter, one of considerable skill, imagination, and vision. At the time, folk had been quite popular on college campuses and bohemian circles, making headway onto the pop charts in diluted form, and while there certainly were a number of gifted songwriters, nobody had transcended the scene as Dylan did with this record
Bob Dylan’s first album was mostly old folk and blues songs, but his second album, The Freewheelin’ Bob Dylan, shows a nearly unbelievable transformation. Dylan’s songwriting talents came fast and furious. These earliest compositions include the landmark civil rights anthem Blowin’ in the Wind ; the anti-war screeds Masters of War, Talkin’ World War III Blues and A Hard Rain’s a-Gonna Fall ; and the romantic turns of Girl from the North Country and Don’t Think Twice, It’s All Right. Modern singer-songwriting starts here. The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan Bob Dylan.
Some of his greatest music, without a doubt, is heard here.
