CD - 1201 Music, Black Lion. Berkshire Blues can easily be divided into two. Pianist Randy Weston performs a dissonant version of "Three Blind Mice" along with a relatively slow "Perdido" and Duke Ellington's "Purple Gazelle" with bassist Bill Wood and drummer Lennie McBrowne. For the second half of the release (recorded two months earlier), Weston plays four of his own originals (including "Berkshire Blues" and "Sweet Meat") unaccompanied; none of the tunes would become standards
