Lott, Murray and Johnson tap stright into that tender warmth and intimacy-and there's the perpetual sense that these performers are close friends who love making music together’ (Classic FM Magazine). As you can probably gather from what I've written thus far, there's so much to enjoy and think about on this disc that it's hard to know just what to single out for further discussion or praise.
Graham Johnson OBE (born 10 July 1950) is a British classical pianist and Lieder accompanist. He is also a noted author and an authority on song and poetry which includes some of the widest reaching studies ever of all of Schubert’s 600 or more songs. Johnson was born in Bulawayo, Southern Rhodesia. His father played the piano and the saxophone. In 1967, Johnson began studies at the Royal Academy of Music (RAM), where his teachers included Harry Isaacs and John Streets.
This is very much like the 40 CD Schubert Box of complete songs. The singers range from Dorothea Roschmann soprano,Mark Padmore,Ian Bostridge,Chris Maltman,Felicity Lott,Ann Murray,Simon Keenlyside,Hanno Muller-Brachmann etc. Although you probably know Schumann's popular songs, his best are not very well known. So,if you like the Romantic period, you will enjoy the songs by Graham Johnson at the piano, who has taken over the mantle from Gerald Moore.
