The Wall is the eleventh studio album by English rock band Pink Floyd, released 30 November 1979 on Harvest and Columbia Records. A rock opera, its story explores Pink, a jaded rockstar whose eventual self-imposed isolation from society is symbolised by a wall. The record was a commercial success, charting at number one in the US for 15 weeks, and number three in the UK. In 1982, the album was adapted into a feature film of the same name, directed by Alan Parker.

Band turmoil during 1979 reached an all-time high and Roger eventually kicked Rick Wright out of the band citing Rick wasn't doing squat when in fact Roger was setting Rick up to fail from the word go. The album’s concept was developed by Waters following Pink Floyds 1977 In the Flesh tour, which followed their previous studio album, Animals. With Pink Floyd at the height of their popularity on this tour, Waters became increasingly frustrated by the ever rowdier audience and began to imagine building a giant wall between the audience and the stage
The first Over the Wall night took place at Stereo (it was on Kelvingrove Street at the time, in a Finnieston which looked pretty different to the way it does now) primarily as a means to showcase Ben's shambolic but brilliant proggy metal band and my own solo material. We were both still teenagers. Over the course of a few years while we were students, the 'collective' idea gradually receded, culminating in a trilogy of shows with Ben Hillman and Gav Prentice' billed as the headliners. Making an album was always the idea, and we had a mountain of songs to choose from, but making Treacherous is still probably the most difficult thing I've done, a kind of self-inflicted torture at times. Simply working on it to the extent that we thought necessary while still holding down day jobs was bad enough, but we became obsessive about vanishingly small details.
