Califone Roomsound covers the same rustic, slightly ramshackle back forty that Tim Rutili has been ploughing through since his previous band Red Red Meat. Only this time the tilled bedrock unveils the most vividly colored, luring crop of songs Rutili has ever harvested. Heron King Blues (Deluxe Reissue), released 08 December 2017 1. Wingbone 2. Califone is an experimental rock band from Chicago. The band is named after Califone International, an audio equipment manufacturer. Their work has been critically acclaimed. Califone has released an album and feature film, both of which are titled All My Friends Are Funeral Singers. The album was released October 6, 2009 on Dead Oceans.

Califone starts characteristically, with "On the Steeple With the Shakes (X-mas Tigers). A repeated guitar figure is laid over lazy, shuffling beats that absentmindedly change shape before your ears. A smattering of high, spacious piano notes tinkle in the background.

Califone will release an album and feature film in 2009, both of which are titled All My Friends Are Funeral Singers. The feature film will be submitted to festivals in 2010, and the band will play a live soundtrack to the film during their tour. All My Friends Are Funeral Singers is the highly anticipated follow-up to 2006's Roots & Crowns, which The New York Times called "enthralling. The first single released for the album is called Funeral Singers.

A RARE TREAT found in this extended player are the words to Tim Rutili's cosmic contemporary wisdom. For years I've delighted at his catch phase snippets peppered throughout his songs; a modern Joyce perhaps, in the wake of Chicago's glow? Rutili sees a music that other musicians don't. Translating that on record is the listeners reward. An eyelet peering thru strange inviting sounds as melodic as they are psycholyrical. Palliating the soul. These five songs all reveal the spectacular tone colors their previous self-titled full length did so it's not surprising that "Beneath the Yachtsman" with it's pump organ and programming (played by Tim Hurly of SIN ROPAS) or the ominous "Don't Let Me Die Nervous" tattoo my heart different shades of blue. A full length is due out later this year on Perishable, but for now the fabulous Portland, OR. label Road Cone, give us providence into the unknown with Tim Rutili's CALIFONE riding the backside of a magnet. And who knows, jesus might ride beside him (without any smokes)...
