Destroyer is the fourth studio album by American rock band Kiss, released on March 15, 1976 by Casablanca Records in the US. It was the third successive Kiss album to reach the top 40 in the US, as well as the first to chart in Germany and New Zealand. The album was certified gold by the RIAA on April 22, 1976, and platinum on November 11 of the same year, the first Kiss album to achieve platinum. The album marked a departure from the raw sound of the band's first three albums.
Destroyer (Kiss album). Destroyer is the first Kiss album to prominently feature outside musicians, such as members of the New York Philharmonic. Wagner also played the acoustic guitar found on the song "Beth". The success of Alive! and Destroyer enabled the band to embark on their first tour of Europe.
Released March 15, 1976. 1. Detroit Rock City Lyrics. The album marked a turning point for KISS, who had formerly been known for their low production values and simple, rocking tunes, as it showcased their more complex songwriting chops on songs with (slightly) more dense subject matter. They are able to dial it up several notches on classic KISS fare of romance and partying as well. Beth, sometimes known as the first power ballad in metal, is perhaps KISS’s greatest love song, and was a major hit for them in the ‘70s.
With their 1976 album Destroyer, the band's fifth release in two years, Kiss began to expand their fan base by shedding a bit of their edge, taking on a more melodic sound and a less menacing image. The Peter Criss ballad "Beth," written for his wife, is the most sentimental love ballad the group ever recorded, and songs like "Detroit Rock City" and "Shout It Out Loud" had the kind of arena-rock punch that kept subscriptions to the Kiss Army at an all-time high. Despite, or because of, the blatantly commercial direction the band seemed to be heading in, 1976.
The album was certified gold by the RIAA on April 22, 1976, and platinum on November 11 of the same year, the first Kiss album to achieve platinum. Destroyer (Kiss album) history. Destroyer (Kiss album) encyclopedia. Destroyer (Kiss album) facts.
