Trash Kit - Confidence. By Thomas Ingham, 25 November 2014, 09:30 GMT. Trash Kit - Confidence. Trash Kit. 7. Release date: 01 December 2014. The album closes with the distinct choppy rhythms and twangy guitars that have become emblematic of Trash Kits sound. Rachel’s style is clean and precise and totally right for being descipherable in the melee; if one looks hard enough you can hear traces of Graceland-esque guitar flourishes in the detail, however, realistically these comparisons are hard to make as Trash Kit are resolutely unique to their philosophy and to their playing. Simultaneously disciplined yet eccentric, refined but raucous, Confidence is a bold and fantastically assured end to the drought.

Trash Kit is a British post-punk trio formed in 2008 in London. Its members are Rachel Aggs (guitar and vocals), Gill Partington (bass guitar), and Rachel Horwood (drums and vocals). Original bassist Ros Murray was previously of the band Electrelane. Rachel Aggs has gone on to play in Sacred Paws, and Shopping, and Rachel Horwood in Bamboo, and Bas Jan (the latter also featuring Serafina Steer). Gill Partington and Rachel Horwood also played together in Halo Halo.

Trash Kit's constituent performers dabble in half a dozen other projects, which must leave them in something of a daze as they ride the tube from venue to venue, barely able to remember which identity they're meant to be assembling that night. Proud proclaimers of a DIY aesthetic, they revel in spontaneity and the desire to achieve beauty almost by accident. Confidence has an air of transience and impatience writ large through its short running time  . That said, Confidence is not a terrible album. It doesn't take itself seriously enough to achieve the self-satisfied plateau of the untalented. If it lacks anything, and it does, it is the sense that everyone involved is fully focused on the task in hand, and not just paying it lip service.

TRASH KIT have a wild feel for melody, writing songs that pull at the reins with a spontaneous charm. Having formed the band in 2009, Rachel Aggs, Rachel Horwood and Ros Murray have since become the glowing core of London's DIY underground. Their music is primal yet thoughtful, affirming yet sincere, drawing on the potential of post-punk and the naturalism of an internal folk music. Although Trash Kit have their forebears in bands like X-Ray Spex, The Ex and The Raincoats, their sound is very much their own take on facing forwards. Galloping polyrhythms, overlapping sung-spoke lyrics and.

07 10. Trash Kit Confidence Upset The Rhythm. The last time we heard from Trash Kit in 2010 on their self-titled debut, the all-female London trio sounded like an exuberant amalgamation of X-Ray Spex and Delta 5 across 17 snippets of scratchy, fidgety post-punk. The songs are longer this time around, and Murray’s old bandmate Verity Susman lends some heft to lead single Medicine and album closer Shyness with some low-end sax squawking. The most obvious progression over the past four years though – and perhaps simultaneously the album’s greatest strength and weakness – is Horwood’s drumming.

These songs swagger and tumble like the whole band is drunk, but they are too coordinated, too graceful, and too internally consistent to be so soused. With a blind impatience, they speed everything up to make shorthand sense, skipping from one well-timed moment of inspiration to another. And as a step up from their last record, it’s a big o.
