Love's a Prima Donna is the fifth studio album by Steve Harley & Cockney Rebel, released in 1976. It was produced by Harley, and would be the band's last album before splitting in 1977. In February 1976, Steve Harley & Cockney Rebel released the album Timeless Flight, which reached the UK Top 20. Having embarked on a tour to promote the album, Harley began writing new material and the band soon returned to the studio to record their next album Love's a Prima Donna

Face to Face was recorded live in the aftermath of the Love's a Prima Donna album and, more pertinently, "Here Comes the Sun," a . hit, but truly, excruciatingly, one of the most cloying covers the Fabs had ever suffered. Predictably, then, it opens the show, and Harley knows no shame. His voice was always more mannered than marvelous, but across the first two Cockney Rebel albums, that worked to his advantage. either that, or the poor lad has hiccups. And they don't go away.

Steve Harley and Cockney Rebel were one of the few acts good enough to compete musically and visually with glam-era Bowie. After the latter's "Ziggy Stardust" triumph in 1972, many artists thought all they needed to do was wear make-up, nail polish, and platform boots. Harley understood this, and chalked up hits right from the start. Then it was all over, except for the tour to promote it that resulted in the "live" album "Face To Face" (1977). He had left Cockney Rebel after recording LAPD with them, and was replaced by Jo Partridge on the "live" album. Partridge is still a session ace.
