The 2004 album Fiendish Regression saw the departure of drummer Paulsson, who was replaced by Coercion drummer Pelle Ekegren. This album showcased more aggressive and generally somewhat faster songs. Touring followed through Europe in conjunction with the Canadian band Cryptopsy. Two years later in 2006, As Rapture Comes was released, further increasing the overall speed and aggression of the band's musical style. Noteworthy is the inclusion of the Alice in Chains cover of "Them Bones".

With their sixth studio album, 2004's Fiendish Regression, Swedish death metal pioneers Grave dangerously tread the very fine line between staying the course and outright stagnation.
