Million Dollar Quartet" is a recording of an impromptu jam session involving Elvis Presley, Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins, and Johnny Cash made on December 4, 1956, at the Sun Record Studios in Memphis, Tennessee. An article about the session was published in the Memphis Press-Scimitar under the title "Million Dollar Quartet". The recording was first released in Europe in 1981 as The Million Dollar Quartet with 17 tracks. A few years later more tracks were discovered and released as The Complete Million Dollar Session. This session is considered a seminal moment in rock and roll.

The debut album by 20-year-old Alicia Keys introduced the world to a singer-songwriter with something for everyone: hip-hop flash, vintage soul song-stylings, gospel fervor, classically trained piano skills, pop melody, punchy beats, unabashed feminism, red-blooded romanticism – and a singing voice that sounded best when raised in an open-throated yowl. The result is a lovely exercise in anachronism: what rock & roll would have sounded like had it been invented in the 1930s Dust Bowl. Though its surprising success (eight Grammys, 20-plus million copies sold) overwhelmed it, this seductively modest little record is a marvel of mood and invention.
