The Rest Is History is Jin's debut album. It was released on October 19, 2004. Originally titled Almost Famous, the album was delayed for over a year. Originally slated for a Summer 2003 release it was pushed back to an October 2003 date. After plans did not materialize, the album's release date was pushed back once more to March 23, 2004. However, the release date got pushed back twice more, to August 24, 2004, until it finally arrived, with a completely new title, on October 19, 2004.

The Rest Is History is Jin’s debut album. It was released on October 18, 2004. The first official single, Learn Chinese, came out in late 2003. Get Your Handz Off , another promotional single was released online and impacted radio on June 29, 2004. The second single for the album was slated to be I Got A Love, but Roc-A-Fella Records blocked the decision, fearing too many singles would over-expose Kanye West. Intro/The Signing (Skit).

It seems as though it was intended to be a standard rap album, for commercial reasons, but in the end it's not. You see, Jin is a Ruff Ryder - that loose network of New York-area rappers who were once red-hot (back when DMX was on fire, back in the late '90s) but were by this point, in late 2004, quite passé (the only still-successful Ruff Ryders, the LOX guys, had long ago distanced themselves from the brand). However, Jin, an especially gifted Chinese-American rapper from Chinatown, isn't your typical Ruff Ryder

Initially titled Almost Famous, this was the album that was supposed to launch Jin to superstardom. It didn’t, but it had the potential to; ultimately, it was hindered by some poor choices. First things first: Jin’s got skill. The Miami-born rapper flows confidently and has a masterful control of both metrics and vocabulary. This allows him to write absurdly good lyrics, that often transcend categorization and turn into bona-fide stories.

1. Intro, The Signing (skit). 5. 6. So Afraid (Album Version;; Explicit).

The first Chinese-American rapper to be signed by a major, Jin Au-yeung has his work cut out for him. Aware that he ticks the hip-hop "novelty" box, he's on the offensive even as his debut album cranks into bellicose life. His version of pleased-to-meet-you, on the punchy opener, Here Now, is: "What's the commotion, you never seen me?/The original Chinky-eye M. And though he's on the diminutive side, he warns that he's "built for war, like the Great Wall of China"
