Musical Youth became the first black act to get regular rotation on MTV when "Pass The Dutchie" was added to their playlist, preceding Michael Jackson's "Billie Jean" video by a few weeks. After the unexpected success of "Dutchie" and the debut album, MCA wanted Musical Youth to make a more US orientated album, which became 'Different Style', with disco-influences and popsoul. The album failed to chart and after just one more single, the Eddie Grant penned and produced "Let's Go To The Moon" in 1984, it was over for Musical Youth. Dennis Seaton left the band in 1985 to pursue a solo carreer and the group disbanded.

Musical Youth is a British Jamaican reggae band formed in 1979 in Birmingham, England. They are best remembered for their successful 1982 single "Pass the Dutchie", which became a number 1 hit around the world. The band recorded two studio albums, and released a number of successful singles throughout 1982 and 1983, including a collaboration with Donna Summer. Musical Youth earned a Grammy Award nomination before disbanding in 1985 after a series of personal problems. The band returned in 2001 as a duo.

Pass the Dutchie" was a song recorded by the British group Musical Youth from their 1982 album The Youth of Today. It was a major hit, holding the number one position on the UK singles charts for three weeks in September and October 1982. The song was a cover version of the song "Pass the Koutchie" by The Mighty Diamonds, which deals with the recreational use of cannabis, "koutchie" being slang for a cannabis pipe.

Notes

The back of this release has the main title in Spanish instead of in English: "Pasando Del Poli" c/w "Give Love A Chance". Also, my copy contains a sticker with the English title on the front of the cover, and if you watch closely, you can see that the title on the sleeve is "Pasando Del Poli".

And like on all releases of the single (both 7"es as well as 12"es), the sleeve mentions "Please Give Love A Chance" as B-side, whereas on the label it says "Give Love A Chance".
