A Dying Machine is the fourth studio album and first concept album by heavy metal band Tremonti. It was released on June 8, 2018 via Napalm Records. The record was produced by Michael "Elvis" Baskette, who produced Tremonti's past three records and also produced Alter Bridge's records. The album is accompanied by a full-length novel under the same name written by Mark Tremonti and John Shirley, tying together loose ends of the album's plot.

A Dying Machine’ is solid album through and through embodying everything Tremonti has achieved since his time in Creed, as well as his time with current label mate Myles Kennedy in Alter Bridge. Vocal and musical talents go into overdrive as the album progresses, the detail and clarity flows from song to song, giving the listener the opportunity to take in each word and bring them into another state of mind. The heaviness of tracks like From The Sky and Throw Them To The Lions balance alongside catchy singles like Take You With Me and The First The Last.

A Dying Machine marks his fourth album released under his self-titled offshoot project. Upon hearing this newest release, I’m saddened by a lack of creative growth and have to conclude Tremonti has hit a peak. The guitar playing showcased within A Dying Machine is excellent both rhythmically and melodically. Metal fans should be appeased by razor-sharp riffage and ferocious solos. Tremonti doesn’t branch out from his skillset, leaving his newest album dry and predictable. The largest factor being song structure. I understand the fallacies in using song structure as a critique, as there are conventions within all artistic expression that help frame the art itself. But A Dying Machine becomes sickeningly predictable, to the point my ears were screaming for any form of variety.

A Dying Machine finds Tremonti expanding their horizons, branching out with their first concept album. The music was inspired by a story that Tremonti himself came up with while on Alter Bridge's tour last summer, centered around the title track for the album. Tremonti is also teaming with John Shirley to author a book based around the story as well, which focuses on the turn of the next century where humans and fabricated beings called "vessels" are trying to co-exist. Tremonti will start their touring support of the album stateside, hitting a few festivals along the way, before venturing overseas and spending the summer in Europe opening shows for Iron Maiden.
