A Midsummer Night's Dream. Ex-Genesis guitarist Steve Hackett steps into Anthony Phillips territory on this classical instrumental album inspired by the Shakespeare play, which grew into a CD-length suite recorded with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.

An orchestra and Steve Hackett on classical guitar, how can you go wrong? That’s a rhetorical question of course. Fifteen tracks follow through a memorable journey, one you don’t get tired of hearing. This is an album which was recorded in 1997 as Steve was invited to do a show with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. The music was all composed by Steve Hackett.

Before Hackett recorded his fourth album Defector, he organised a series of gigs in November 1979, including one in London at the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane, to test out new material. In April 1997 he released the neo-classical influenced A Midsummer Night's Dream with accompaniments from the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. It reached the top 10 UK classical chart. This marked the beginning of keyboardist, arranger, and producer Roger King taking a more prominent role on Hackett's future albums and live shows. In 1999, Hackett released his fourteenth studio album, Darktown.
