Mandel Bruce Patinkin (/pəˈtɪŋkɪn/; born November 30, 1952) is an American actor and singer. Patinkin is well known for his portrayal of Inigo Montoya in the 1987 film The Princess Bride. He has appeared in major roles in television series such as Chicago Hope, Dead Like Me, and Criminal Minds, and currently plays Saul Berenson in the Showtime series Homeland.
Mandy Patinkin was born Mandel Bruce Patinkin in Chicago, Illinois, to Doris "Doralee" (Sinton), a homemaker and cookbook writer, and Lester Patinkin, who operated two scrap metal plants. He is of Russian Jewish and Latvian Jewish descent. Growing up, he began singing in synagogue choirs at the age of 13-14 and still continues to use his fantastic. Mandy Patinkin was born Mandel Bruce Patinkin in Chicago, Illinois, to Doris "Doralee" (Sinton), a homemaker and cookbook writer, and Lester Patinkin, who operated two scrap metal plants.
Mandy Patinkin made his Broadway debut in 1977, and won a Tony Award for his solid portrayal of Che Guevara in Andrew Lloyd Webber's 'Evita. Thereafter, he appeared in Stephen Sondheim's musical, 'Sunday in the Park with George. He left his mark on moviegoers with several E. L. Doctorow adaptations. He is a skilled vocalist and instrumentalist, but these talents have remained almost untapped in films, except for his own 1990 film, '88 Keys in Dick Tracy. In 1998, Patinkin recorded an album comprising of traditional, classical, and contemporary Yiddish music. In 1999, he starred in 'The Adventures of Elmo' and 'Grouchland. In 2003, Patinkin played an important role in the Showtime series, 'Dead Like Me,' and played the criminal profiler Jason Gideon in the CBS crime drama, 'Criminal Minds,' in 2005
