Hi, How Are You: The Unfinished Album is the sixth self-released music cassette album by singer-songwriter Daniel Johnston, recorded in September 1983. It is arguably his most popular album. Johnston claims he was in the midst of a nervous breakdown while recording it, and calls this his "unfinished album. The album is one of the most sonically varied of Johnston's early output.

Gathering two of the albums Daniel Johnston recorded after he moved to Texas from West Virginia, High Wire Music's reissue of The Continued Story/Hi, How Are You features digitally remastered sound, lyrics to all of the songs, and a poster of Johnston's inimitable drawings. It also underscores how much his music was growing and changing at this point in his life.

As for continued story, not so great. Below par for the most part. I think that it has a "nostalgic air" to it. I would not give it 5 star but I have been captivated by Daniel Johnston lyrics and music. His performance of the songs on this CD are very rough. I have seen a few YouTube. com performances of his where he sings with a band live. I think these are much better versions of the songs than the ones on the CD. Don't let this stop you from purchasing this CD however. It's a good introduction to Dan Johnston music.

With a movie of his life in production, a biography imminent from Everett True, high-profile UK dates pencilled in, and new reissues of his classic 80s albums Hi, How Are You, Yip/Jump Music and Continued Story (as well as the Welcome to My World retrospective compilation), Johnston is very much in the spotlight. In the music press, a bad word about him is seldom heard. But you can't help feel that a lot of people just get him wrong. The 2006 documentary, The Devil and Daniel Johnston, explicitly emphasised that Johnston was lo-fi's very own Brian Wilson. This kind of canonising helps no one, least of all Johnston himself.
