It stretches the new wave's existence by a few years, including the Smiths' "How Soon Is Now," Erasure's "Chains of Love," and Siouxsie & the Banshees' "Kiss Them for Me" - all of which were released after the era had drawn to a close. Undeniably new wave singles from ABC ("Poison Arrow"), Berlin ("The Metro"), the B-52's ("Rock Lobster"), and Devo ("Jocko Homo") make for some of the highlights

New Wave music meant a lot of things in the late 1970s. It encompassed pretty much everything that followed the punk movement that still served as an alternative to mainstream pop and rock. There was power-pop, neo-psychedelia, acid-punk, art rock and lots and lots of keyboards

2. –Generation X (4). Your Generation. Your Generation (18 Punk & New Wave Classics) ‎(CD, Comp). Music Collection International (MCI).

List of 100 greatest "New Wave" music albums of the 1970s and 1980s as compiled by digitaldreamdoor.

The following is a list of artists and bands associated with the new wave music genre during the late 1970s and early-to-mid 1980s. The list does not include acts associated with the resurgences and revivals of the genre that have occurred from the 1990s onward. Acts associated with these revivals are found in the list of post-punk revival bands article. Groups and artists with aliases are listed by the first letter in their name, and individuals are listed by their surname.

18 New Wave Classics is loaded with songs I love. I will take exception to Bryan Ferry's Kiss and Tell to be classified as a New Wave song. But hey, I've always loved Bryan Ferry and especially when he was with Roxy Music. These 18 songs (again, with the exception of Kiss and Tell) represent a very cool genre of music.

Track 2-10 is NOT the 4:04 single edit (quite rare to find on cd compilations) but the readily available album mix at over 6 mins, with a half-hearted partial fade-out on the closing guitar solo (for some unknown reason).
