Neftali's Beast was an extension of the Santiago Band. Neftali put family members signatures on the contract to sell the record. The single was "Land of the Drums". It was a unique blend of natural animal sounds put to rhythm and a driving dance percussive beat. Neftali was a sample pioneer before samplers were invented. Luis and Barbara Marvin, long time friends of Neftali, taught him how to replace the string and flute sounds on a Melotron with animal sounds, and play the sounds in rhythm

The Drums is the eponymous debut studio album by American indie pop band The Drums. It was released June 7, 2010, on Moshi Moshi and Island Records. The album contains the singles "Let's Go Surfing," "Best Friend," "Me and the Moon" and "Forever and Ever, Amen" as well as "Down By The Water," which had previously been released as part of the band's Summertime! EP. The album was recorded in Jacob Graham's apartment in Florida, the band's apartment in New York City, and in a shack in Woodstock, New York.
