Due to the artwork on the cover, the original release is sometimes referred to as The Blue Garden. A reissue was released in 1990 on the Delicious Vinyl label. The reissue had a new cover, a change in song sequence and the addition of the song "Doraldina's Prophecies".

Masters of Reality is a rock band formed in 1981 by guitarist, producer and singer Chris Goss and Tim Harrington in Syracuse, New York. The band is now part of the "Palm Desert Scene", which includes Kyuss, Queens of the Stone Age and many other stoner rock or (as they prefer to call it) desert rock bands. The band is named after the album "Master of Reality" by Black Sabbath.

Because the Syracuse, New York-based Masters of Reality took their name from the title of a scorching Black Sabbath album, some assumed they were a heavy metal band. But in fact, their forte is a bluesy approach with a s type of appeal. Though subtle traces of Sabbath can occasionally be heard on a few of their songs, their sound owes a lot more to Ten Years After and the Doors. First released by Def American in 1989 and reissued by Delicious Vinyl in 1990, this impressive offering was produced by Rick Rubin and has the markings of a Rubin production.
