Children of Bodom's 2008 LP "Blooddrunk" is a clinic on sustaining heavy metal integrity while extensively using keyboards on all of their songs. To start, the trunk-like base of a rhythm section is the number one reason why "Blooddrunk" stays constantly heavy. Driving rhythms, pounding double bass beats, and strong death tones keep all else that is higher, faster, and melodic deeply rooted.

Blooddrunk is the sixth album by Finnish melodic death metal band Children of Bodom, released on April 7, 2008, through Spinefarm Records. The album includes a re-recorded version single for "Tie My Rope". It sold 20,000 copies during its first week of release.

Children of Bodom is a Finnish extreme metal band from Espoo. Formed in 1993 as Inearthed, the group consists of Alexi Laiho (Lead vocals, lead guitar), Janne Wirman (keyboards), Henkka T. Blacksmith (bass), Jaska Raatikainen (drums) and Daniel Freyberg (rhythm guitar). They have released ten studio albums, two live albums, two EPs, two compilation albums and one DVD.

Blooddrunk sees Children of Bodom progressing on the path they paved for themselves with "Are You Dead Yet?", furtherly enhancing the thrash metal influences at the expense of the power metal counterpart. The aggressive riffing, the increased use of pick scrapes, harmonics and thrash-oriented rhytmics, are matched by a rawer production, which unfortunately falls flat on the guitar tone department, lacking mids and sounding too dried up for its own good. In all honesty, 'Blooddrunk' is my favourite COB album, probably because it was the first one I listened to in full. Initially I thought something along the lines of "What the fuck is this shit?" when I heard it. Eventually though it did grow on me, and now it's one of my favourite complete metal albums.
