To/Die/For (often abbreviated TDF) were a gothic metal band from the town of Kouvola in southeast of Finland, assembled in 1993 as a hard rock band under the name Mary-Ann. In 1999, they decided to change their musical style to gothic metal, changing their band name as well. The band disbanded on 13 April 2009, but has reformed as of 4 July 2009, and played their final concert at John Smith Festival in Finland on June 22, 2016.

Their debut album - "All Eternity" - was released in Finland by the end of 1999, and the band then signed contracts with Nuclear Blast (for Europe) and Pony Canyon (for Japan). The band even got a music video filmed and obtained a fair amount of exposure, allowing them to go on tour with bands Dark Tranquillity, Sentenced, and In Flames. Tonmi Lillman aka "Tonmi" and Joonas Koto left the band.

This is my 12th entry for "Records to Die For," and there really aren't that many records that I'd dash into a blazing room to save, so let me alter the terms. Here are the two albums-one new, one historical-that I cherish most of those released in 2017. The newest album from this wunderkind singer, 28 years old and already the Sarah Vaughan of our times, marks a quantum leap in her evolution-more poignant, more swinging, less mannered than her earlier discs (and she's carved new headways since). She sings standard ballads, dirty blues, French ditties, Weill operas, all with lyrical insight, rhythmic wit, and wonder.
