Paul Pena is a respectable album in that style, but it's a fairly ordinary journeyman effort, albeit without serious flaws. There's a little bit of an early-'70s folky singer/songwriter looseness à la Van Morrison involved as well, though occasionally he gets into a funky groove that was more explicitly Southern soul-influenced. Only "One for the Lonely" comes close to getting a really hooky blues-rock riff into the mix, however.

Paul Pena (born January 26, 1950, Hyannis, Massachusetts, USA – died October 1, 2005, San Francisco, California, USA) was an American singer, songwriter and guitarist. Born with congenital glaucoma, Paul was completely blind by age 20. He learned to play music from an early age and did a lot of performing in Massachusetts. His next album titled "New Train" was recorded in the mid-1970's and was supposed to be his breakthrough record, but it was not released. His song "Jet Airliner" from that album was covered by the Steve Miller Band, and Paul lived off of the royalties for many years. The album was finally released in 2000 on Hybrid Recordings.

Paul Pena is the 1971 debut album by blind singer-songwriter Paul Pena.

Paul J. Pena (January 26, 1950 – October 1, 2005) was a blind American singer, songwriter and guitarist of Cape Verdean descent. His music from the first half of his career touched on Delta blues, jazz, morna, flamenco, folk and rock and roll. Pena is probably best known for writing the song "Jet Airliner," a major 1977 hit for the Steve Miller Band and a staple of classic rock radio; and for appearing in the 1999 documentary film Genghis Blues, wherein he displayed his abilities in the field of Tuvan throat singing.
