Love Sublime is an album by Brad Mehldau and Renée Fleming. Prior to this album, Brad Mehldau had built a reputation as a jazz pianist, particularly with his trio. Soprano Renée Fleming was known for "her operatic performances and recitals of classical art songs". Mehldau's playing often encompassed classical music, while Fleming was interested in being a jazz vocalist from her time at college. Rainer Maria Rilke wrote the poems collected in The Book of Hours around the turn of the twentieth century.

This is a thoughtful performance, and Fleming and Mehldau are content to let the words and music speak for themselves; their understated delivery urges the listener to follow the texts closely - a good idea, considering the subtle nuances of the poetry. Nonesuch provides clean, naturally resonant sound.

This collaboration between jazz pianist Brad Mehldau and the much-acclaimed classical soprano Renée Fleming is entirely a al venture. But if some Mehldau regulars might feel adrift in these pure-toned melodies, there are just enough gently-rocking piano vamps and climactic flurries to identify his guiding hand. The project was jazz-lover Fleming's idea, with Carnegie Hall artistic director Robert Harth the enabler. Mehldau wrote all the music, for seven Rainer Maria Rilke poems from The Book of Hours: Love Poems to God and four by American poet Louise Bogan. Beautiful singing, provocative melodies - and a bolder, more confident venture than Mehldau's previous classical album, Elegiac Cycle.
