Time Changes Everything’ opens with the dipping, golden chords and burnished strings of ‘Joe Louis’ and suddenly there’s a brash, guttural and distinctly North Western vocal elbowing in, talking of climbing mountains, and the inner psyche of boxers. Who is this pushy, sarcy, past-caring singer, sounding like a literate glam rocker with a Lennon fixation? Thats the thing with Squire‘s new record. It’s actually his debut. Instead he’s made a brazen, heartwarming, classic ’70s bardic rock album, spirited enough to compete with and instruct the Ashcrofts and Gallaghers. Time Changes Everything is the debut solo album by the English guitarist John Squire, released in 2002 on his own North Country Records label. The album contains many allusions to Squire's former band The Stone Roses, not least the cover which features an animal skull splattered with paint in the style of Jackson Pollock, a technique used by Squire for his covers of The Stone Roses debut album and its accompanying singles. Time changes everything. Why did we have to say goodbye I know why the caged bird sings. Time changes Everything. Is that a face I saw at the window Did I hear footsteps out in the hall? All the people that we used to know Faces stranded in my mind Faces drawn without lines, Time changes everything. How can the world keep on turning? Well what else is it gonna do? I'm still growing, I'm still learning I'm not the only child Hanging in the frame with you. Time changes everything
