The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion was an American rock band from New York City, formed in 1991. The group consisted of Judah Bauer on guitar, backing vocals, harmonica and occasional lead vocals, Russell Simins on drums and Jon Spencer on vocals, guitar and theremin.

Public Places is the 2000 album by drummer/vocalist Russell Simins. Released by Grand Royal, Simins is known as the drummer for a number of rock groups, including The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion, The Honeymoon Killers, and Butter 08. This was his only solo album in his entire career, and features people helping him out, including Vivian Trimble, Mike Mills, Michael Diamond, Miho Hatori, Chyna Phillips, and Bijou Phillips. A lot of people know of The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion, but when it comes to membership, most can only name the band's namesake, Mr. Spencer himself.
Russell Simins first came to attention as the drummer for experimental rockers the Jon Spencer Blues Explosion. The album, different from his work with Jon Spencer, gave Simins the chance to do other things on a record besides play drums and allowed him to explore other emotional avenues.
