Farewell, Farewell is a live Fairport Convention album recorded on the band's farewell tour in 1979. It is the last Fairport album to feature fiddler/mandolinist Dave Swarbrick. Tracks are drawn from three performances of the Farewell Tour during Spring 1979: at Birmingham University, Southampton University and at Derby Assembly Rooms. Most of the songs are performances of already familiar tracks from previous studio albums

This final album was recorded live during Fairport's farewell tour - Spring '79. Remixed at Mill Stream studio, Cheltenham. Master tapes were assembled from concerts at Birmingham University, Southampton University and Derby Assembly Rooms. Track A. is not listed on the sleeve, but only on the center label. FAIRPORT CONVENTION Farewell farewell Simon's GAMA 1 Gatefold sleeve. The album opens with one of Fairport's best known songs, "Matty groves". No Sandy Denny vocals here of course, and Dave Swarbrick's violin is even more up front than on the studio original. His solo on the latter half of the track is somewhat different too, leading into a spirited run through the classic "Orange Blossom special"

It's not in league with House Full, but it is a worthwhile album, featuring the final version of Fairport Convention in its unbroken line from the original group - here including Simon Nicol, Dave Swarbrick, and Dave Pegg - in good form, covering a cross section of their history. Songs include a crunchy version of "Mr. Lacey"; faithful, emphatic renditions of "John Lee" and "Sir Patrick Spens"; a lustily sung "Walk Awhile"; and a warmly nostalgic "Meet on the Ledge"; with a finale of Mike Waterson's "Rubber Band.
