12 Bar Blues is the debut solo album from Stone Temple Pilots singer Scott Weiland. Its sound and style differ greatly from STP's previous releases. The design concept of the cover is a homage to the cover design of John Coltrane's Blue Train album. The title name comes from the simple chord progression known as "twelve-bar blues. In a 1998 interview on MTV's 120 Minutes, Weiland states that his then brother-in-law introduced him to Blair Lamb, who co-produced 12 Bar Blues with Weiland.
Instead of reviving the Magnificent Bastards, Weiland decided to record a solo album with producer Daniel Lanois. The teaming was unexpected but inspired - 12 Bar Blues is an unpredictable, carnivalesque record confirming that Weiland was the visionary behind STP's sound. He's fascinated by sound, piling on layers of shredded guitars, drum loops, and keyboards, making sure that each song sounds drastically different from its predecessor.
12 Bar Blues was the result, and it is amazing. It sounds nothing like his previous work with Stone Temple Pilots. It sounds like a singer/songwriter album, but with lots of drum loops, catchy hooks, keyboards, there is trip hop and even a waltz on it. The art work of the album is a tribute to John Coltrane’s Blue Train. To me this is the best work Scott Weiland has ever produced, the album is amazing from beginning to end. This album needs a proper vinyl pressing! Reply See 1 reply Notify me 1 Helpful.

12 Bar Blues is the debut solo album from Stone Temple Pilots singer Scott Weiland (. Its sound and style differ greatly from Stone Temple Pilots previous releases. Tosh also alters the chords, doing away with song’s traditional 12 bar blues progression, and although guitarist Donald Kinsey pulls a few Berry licks in the guitar solo, Chuck’s signature intro riff at the beginning is noticeably absent. On the 2001 reissue of his 1979, I’m The Man, Joe Jackson released a live cover of Berry’s little known 1961 single as a bonus track.
Release in 1998 on Atlantic Records. Pitchfork Media stated upon its release that 12 Bar Blues is easily the most innovative album Weiland has ever produced for public consumption, while Entertainment Weekly wrote that the LP’s sheer invention and hooks will make your indulgence worthwhile. The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year is a new collection of Christmas standards performed by Scott Weiland.
