Nathaniel Joseph Ruess (born February 26, 1982) is an American singer-songwriter. He is the lead singer of the indie pop band Fun, and previously of The Format. As of 2015, he also performs as a solo musician. Ruess was born on February 26, 1982, in Iowa City, Iowa to Larry Ruess and Bess Zinger. He is the younger of two children, having one sister named Elizabeth. His uncle, John Ruess, was a performer on Broadway and served as an influence for Ruess' musical ventures.

I always had that melody, and I figured it would be a whole bunch of interludes throughout the album. We had finished the album, and we decided that we didn’t need any interludes. It felt pretentious to do, and it already felt like adding too many tracks. I like to keep albums usually at 10, and we ended up with 12. Interludes would’ve brought it up to 14, and it would’ve felt a little too conceptual. We finished the album without the intro, and AhHa didn’t feel like it set up the album properly.
