The band's earliest albums were noted for their noise rock influences, though their sound evolved by the early 2000s with the releases of Misery is a Butterfly (2004) and 23 (2007), which both incorporated elements of dream pop, shoegaze and other genres.
23 is the seventh studio album by American alternative rock band Blonde Redhead. The album was released on April 10, 2007 through 4AD. 23 is the first album the band self-produced, with additional assistance provided by producer Mitchell Froom on two tracks, "Silently" and "Top Ranking". In an interview regarding the album, the band acknowledged their goals to be more spontaneous in their songwriting, to aim for simplicity and clarity, and to create additional tensions

On June 7, 2000 Blonde Redhead stepped into the BBC’s Radio 1 Yalding House studios for what would be their sole Peel Session, a setting particularly important as it inspired the namesake of one of this 7" single’s two songs. Where is John? a nervous producer asked again and again, pacing the room, unable to locate the revered radio host, as a warmed up Blonde Redhead waited patiently. The trio’s affection for Peel dated to a very early tour in 1995, when they were lost.
So long as your mind falls for life then life will fall for you And I will love you for another life and another you But as long as you will shadow me then I won't bear the fruits That will want to make me love you another night and another you. Black guitar gave me a song The role of your own demise awash my tears If the sun may blind you I find you the moon No one shadows The retina of your heart. So long as your eyes follow mine then mine will fall on you And I will blind you for another night and another moon But.
