The Baron is the 66th album by American country singer Johnny Cash, released on Columbia Records in 1981 (see 1981 in music). The title track was a top ten hit, and four singles in all - including "Mobile Bay", "Reverend Mr. Black" and "Chattanooga City Limit Sign" - were released, though the latter three were rather unsuccessful in the charts, peaking at No. 60, No. 71 and No. 71 respectively.

Into the Badlands' Profile: Baron. Do you like this video? Baron, is the title given to a person that controls a specific territory and resource within the Badlands. Like the shoguns of medieval Japan, the Barons are power brokers who rule with lethal force. Part Mafia boss, part king, they exert serpentine-like control over their respective region.

Like most of Baron's output, this is much too derivative and the composition is too simple (it wouldn't hurt to have some more timbre changes and/or some slightly more complex melodies), and just like most of the other Baron releases the high production values are the only thing that keep it afloat. That said, it does hit it's target. It's great to dance to, it has some catchy hooks, it has no pretention and doesn't take itself seriously, and that's exactly how it should be with this kind of music. Baron clearly knows he is not pushing boundaries here - and he clearly doesn't care - he just wants to put a smile on your face and get you to move. This release delivers in spades on that front, and I believe one has to respect that. This kind of music doesn't age well at all though...
