Steve Hauschildt - Dissolvi Steve Hauschildt has always been interested in tension, and in occupying the space between seemingly oppositional ideals. The album's title, a reference to St. Paul's phrase "cupio dissolvi" in the New Testament, reflects the desire for dissolution into God ("cupio" meaning "I wish," and "dissolvi," "to be dissolved").

Steve Hauschildt has spent the last decade deconstructing the sound his former band, Emeralds, reveled in. Rather than reliving their past glories, he has isolated distinct elements embedded in the drone mavens’ works-gossamer kosmische, fuzzily tactile swaths of noise, the cool glow of early electronic music, the rhythmic hum of synth-driven post-rock in the Trans Am mold-while pushing those styles to a pretty, fully-realized zenith. But his seventh studio album, Dissolvi, shakes things up a bit. He’s still spinning webs of synthetic beauty, but now they’ve taken on the more distinctly rhythmic form of minimal techno, a style Hauschildt only hinted at on Strands.

Steve Hauschildt's fifth solo album is his most collaborative work since the breakup of Emeralds, the heralded ambient trio he co-founded in 2006. Unlike his other solo works, Dissolvi was recorded in a proper studio, primarily in Hauschildt's new home city of Chicago. Rafael Anton Irisarri co-produced the album and provided instruments, effects, and programming on several tracks, and Taylor Deupree contributed a patch to one track. More noticeable to anyone who isn't reading the liner notes, this is the first time Hauschildt has worked with guest vocalists

Dissolvi, Steve Hauschildt's first full-length with Ghostly International, engages sublimation from an ontological perspective: by dissociating the self. The album's title - a reference to cupio dissolvi, the Latin phrase meaning "I wish to be dissolved" - needn't be taken one-dimensionally or as purely solipsistic. It does, however, serve an apt reference.
