The Vehicle album was the first one released by The Ides of March, who were teenagers at the time and had not input on the album cover. Records delivered this cover, playing off the lyrics in the title track about a "friendly stranger in the black sedan Between 1966 and 1971 the Chicago-based group had five Top 100 records; after "Vehicle" their next biggest hit was "You Wouldn't Listen", it reached in 1966 and was their debut on the chart.
