This album, released so many years later shows that in essence Comus was only sleeping, or as they said it: In a Coma. Out Of The Coma' 'The Sacrifice' & 'Malgaard Suite': written by Roger Wootton. The Return': written by Glenn Goring with melodic development & vocal arrangements by Bobbie Watson.

A less than stellar second album, back in 1974, followed by a 35-year silence essentially rendered the hiatus redundant, and falling into Out of the Coma today is akin to rediscovering a priceless manuscript that should have been in our hands decades back. No matter that the album features just three new songs (all of them familiar from the band's current live show); no matter, either, that the rest of the disc is consumed by "Malgaard Suite," a rough live sketch of a song that would have made the next album, had the original band only stayed the course.

Only for completionists (3%). COMUS is one of those bands that despite really only having created one outstanding album of their career, nevertheless transcends the very nature of time and space with their debut album "First Utterance" having become a cult classic after the fact and inspiring generations of music lovers with their utterly magically dark folk magnum opus. It does indeed seem that the album was divinely ordained as even Roger Wootton's memories of the time period were bleak and depressing and absolutely nothing about the recording of the album worked out as planned.

Comus are a British progressive folk band who had a brief career in the early 1970s. Their first album, First Utterance, brought them a cult following, which persists. They reunited in 2009, and have played several festivals and released a new album. Comus was formed in 1969 by fellow art students Roger Wootton and Glenn Goring, who developed their musical style performing in folk clubs in and around Bromley in Kent
