Let's Be Still is the second studio album by American band The Head and the Heart, following the 2011 release of their self-entitled first album. It was officially released on October 15, 2013. Two months prior to this release, track six on the album, "Shake" was released as a single in late July 2013. The band also gave a performance of the second track, "Another Story" on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon on August 6, 2013. The band has scheduled a Fall of 2013 tour following the release of Let's Be Still.
This is the first time that we produced as a full band. This one is everyone’s influences equally present and prevalent throughout the album. I think that comes from being better musicians, more comfortable with each other from two-plus years of touring on the road, frontman Josiah Johnson tells Rolling Stone
The band's second album Let's Be Still was released on October 15, 2013. Recorded in Seattle and produced together with Shawn Simmons, the first track "Shake" was aired on the August 5, 2013. Frontman Johnson described it as "this is the first time that we produced as a full band. This one is everyone's influences equally present and prevalent throughout the album". On March 14, 2019, the band announced their fourth album, Living Mirage, would be released on May 17, and the first single "Missed Connection".
Recorded in Seattle, Washington and mixed in Bridgeport, Connecticut, the sophomore outing from rags to riches indie folk collective Head and the Heart sounds like the product of two coast lines. The band’s 2011 debut introduced an unpretentious, musically astute gang of pub-spawned troubadours who liked their country soft and their rock & roll pretty, and the lush and languid Let’s Be Still doubles down on that esthetic, offering up a 13-track road trip of a record that’s built on a foundation of breezy West Coast pop and propelled by.
The second album from Seattle six piece The Head and The Heart follows 2011’s rather darling self-titled debut, on which their indie-folk stylings reinterpreted the sounds of Americana for a modern audience, bathing them in warm, golden hues. Let’s Be Still continues in the same vain as their first album, but presents a more slowed-down performance than its predecessor, moving away from the lively folk of old and veering towards straight up country territory. It’s more considered, perhaps, an album from a more mature band who’ve stepped back, slowed down and taken a more calculated approach. The result is a more pensive, slightly melancholic record that certainly doesn’t instantly engage like its predecessor.

It starts with a man waking up because of some tortured dreams, follows him (and a cute puppy) as they make their way to a field, where they meet up with their lover and travel in some hot air balloons. Apparently, the video was inspired by Mary Poppins, but I’m getting more of a Moonrise Kingdom for adults vibe. It’s a very pretty and pastoral video, and you can watch below. Let’s Be Still is out now via Sub Pop.
