Dina Carroll (born Geraldine Carroll, 21 August 1968) is an English singer. Her first two albums, So Close (1993), and Only Human (1996), both reached number two on the UK Albums Chart and went platinum. She won Best British Female Solo Artist at the 1994 Brit Awards.

Walk On By" is a song composed by Burt Bacharach, with lyrics by Hal David for singer Dionne Warwick in 1963. The song peaked at number 6 on the US Billboard Hot 100 and number 1 on the Cash Box Rhythm and Blues Chart In June 1964 and was nominated for a 1965 Grammy Award for the Best Rhythm and Blues Recording. Isaac Hayes recorded the song five years later, in 1969, and reached number 30 on the Hot 100 chart and number 13 in the R&B charts with his version.

Dina Carroll's debut album, So Close, was the dream of her record company, A&M, the type of album that had an instant impact, a very slow fade in the charts, and a second wind more than a year after release. The singer had come to public notice as a guest vocalist on the Quartz remake of Carole King's "It's Too Late," and after her solo dance hit "Ain't No Man," she was invited to New York by Robert Clivillés and David Cole from the C+C Music Factory to produce her album.

Although "Walk On By" did not make it to the UK Top 40 (peaking at number 95), it was a minor hit in continental Europe. Other solo hits during that era included "People All Around the World" and "Me Sienta Sola (We Are One)", the latter being an underground club hit in the New York scene.
