It was released on February 13, 2017, as the second single and was included on the deluxe version of the band's sixth studio album Red Pill Blues (2017). The official remix was released on May 5, 2017, featuring rapper Gucci Mane. Cold" was written and produced by Phil Shaouy, John Ryan, and Jacob Kasher Hindlin, and was co-written by Adam Levine, Justin Tranter, and Detail.

Adam Levine confirmed on Twitter that the song would make its live debut on The Ellen Show on February 15. Following the success of Don’t Wanna Know that peaked at number six on the Billboard Hot 100, Maroon 5 released Cold, which talks about how to deal with relationships and break ups. The song was released just in time for Valentine’s Day along with its music video the next day.

Maroon 5 is definitely aiming for the Urban demo this era. Their first single ‘I Don’t Wanna Know‘ had a guest appearance from Kendrick Lamar and it surely did the trick on the charts. The band is now prepping the release of the follow up titled ‘Cold’, this time taking help from none other than Future. The two acts shot the video for the song in December which kicked off the rumors of a potential collaboration.

Maroon 5 is set to perform Cold on Ellen this Wednesday (Feb. 15). No word yet on whether Hendrix will join the band for the set. M5 has yet to reveal plans for their next album, which is expected to include Don’t Wanna Know and Cold. Their last LP was 2014’s V, which featured Gwen Stefani. Meanwhile, Future is about to drop his self-titled album on Friday (Feb. 17), while his Nobody Safe Tour kicks off in May with Migos, Tory Lanez, and Kodak Black.
