The Smashing Pumpkins (or Smashing Pumpkins) are an American alternative rock band from Chicago, Illinois. Formed in 1988 by frontman Billy Corgan (lead vocals, guitar), D'arcy Wretzky (bass), James Iha (guitar), and Jimmy Chamberlin (drums), the band has undergone many line-up changes. The current lineup features Corgan, Chamberlin, Iha and guitarist Jeff Schroeder.

Produced by Billy Corgan. Hands that offer Hands that take Someone's daughter Taking me, take me away In the water Just like a snake Someone's daughter. Hearing love slip away And you've been, you've been abused All your life, you lost And true.

Oceania (The Smashing Pumpkins album). Oceania is the eighth studio album by American alternative rock band The Smashing Pumpkins, released on June 19, 2012 through EMI, Reprise Records and Martha's Music. Produced by Billy Corgan and Bjorn Thorsrud, the album is part of the band's abandoned 44-song project album, Teargarden by Kaleidyscope. As of September 2012, Oceania has sold over 102,000 copies in the US.

After The Smashing Pumpkins disbanded in 2000, Corgan and Chamberlin reunited for the short-lived supergroup Zwan, also featuring members of Slint, Chavez, and A Perfect Circle. The band held out until they met someone willing to record analog, and with the right energy and philosophy, eventually.

Smashing Pumpkins - with a core lineup of Corgan, second guitarist James Iha, bassist D’arcy Wretzky, and drummer Jimmy Chamberlin - hailed from Chicago and blew up with their second album, 1993’s Siamese Dream, a colossus of snarling guitar-god ambition and bleating sad-goth vulnerability. God bless the crunchy neon-melodrama anthem Today, and its iconic let’s paint an ice-cream truck video. Very few ’90s rock records - Nirvana’s Nevermind, in fact, might be the only one - were bigger, or better, or more melodramatically beloved. The Pumpkins followed it up in 1995 with the double-disc.

Notes

Daughter was issued only to Reflex Magazine subscribers in 1992.

Daughter is an extended version of a track from the 1989 Moon demo recorded at Reel Time Studios in Chicago, which the Smashing Pumpkins sold at their early shows in Chicago.

It is estimated that the magazine and flexi-disc are limited to around 1000 copies.

The song is incorrectly credited solely to Billy Corgan on the flexi-disc, however the Moon tape's liner notes state that it was actually written by both Corgan and D'arcy Wretzky.
