Eric Marienthal - Crossroads album flac

Primarily known as an altoist but also an excellent player on tenor and soprano, Marienthal came to fame with Chick Corea's Elektric Band and tends to sound at his best when teamed with players of that caliber. Many of his own projects suffer from overproduction, a lack of spontaneity and commercial material, but that is not true of Crossroads.

Crossroads is a 1988 music collection box set of the work of Eric Clapton released by Polydor Records. The set includes his work with the Yardbirds, John Mayall's Blues Breakers, Cream, Blind Faith, Delaney & Bonnie & Friends and Derek and the Dominos, as well as his solo career. Several live or alternate studio recordings were previously unreleased. Anthony DeCurtis contributed the liner notes to the album, and The Rolling Stones guitarist Ronnie Wood painted the album's cover.

I heard Eric Marienthal play live in Auckland in September 2009. I was expecting to hear a professional, experienced saxophonist - what I heard was so much more and moreover what a humble, personable musician. Yes, he always has a sweet tone, but live he rips it up and is adventurous. and that Eric blows away the cobwebs of most of his other solo albums. Why then does this studio album sound live? Simply because the musos played it live in front of each other when recording and the spontaneity shines though. It does help that the best musicians in the world were there to play along with Eric. What an incredible lineup.
