Black Rebel Motorcycle Club’, last night in Detroit. The name from Marlon Brando’s motorcycle gang in, The Wild One. Imagine the Black Keys with Led Zeppelin’s swagger, and the jangling chords of REM, real loud. I had seen Black Rebel Motorcycle Club at a festival a couple of years ago and thought they were pretty good. Yesterday's gig at the Albert Hall proved to me that they are, in fact, one of the best bands I've had the chance to see live. I've been a fan of their music for quite a while now, but I was also truly impressed by their performance and amazing energy.

Black Rebel Motorcycle Club started off playing hard rock influenced by British bands such as Led Zeppelin, but on this their third album the band show other sides of themselves, with several songs similar to those of the young Bob Dylan. The acoustic guitar is the most dominant instrument, which gives the numbers a crisp sound and the music in general a softer sound. For a band to do a complete overhaul like this is impressive to say the least. I hope the attention Howl is getting will force those critics who dismissed . to take another look. I read that the title of the album, Howl, is a reference to the Allen Ginsburg poem of the same name. I don't really see much of a connection. Howl" the poem is loaded with urban imagery that Ginsburg seems so intent on railing against.
