The expression carries small connotations of the greed and envy that the average human being has when he compares his situations with that of another person. The proverb to a large extent discourages people from comparing their lives or situations with that of others and automatically coming to the conclusion that other people’s lives are better than theirs. Examples of the grass is always greener (on the other side of the fence) : Tom: John’s life is so fabulous. I wish my life were like his.

The notion of 'greener grass' being a metaphor for new experience had been in use for some time before this proverb was coined, as in this example from The New York Times, June 1853: It bewitched your correspondent with a desire to see greener grass and set foot on fresher fields. Earlier variants exists, both in the UK and the USA, which are effectively the same phrase, as in this example from the Pennsylvania newspaper The Public Press, August 1897: The mines are wonderful, but probably not so wonderful as represented.

I often think that the grass is greener on the other side but then start counting my own blessings immediately. You cannot possibly want to leave your job because you think you can become a singer. The grass is always greener on the side. The rich man has plenty of diseases to fight with. You can start being grateful for what you have because the grass always looks greener on the other side. I went to check the prospects out because the grass looked greener on that side but did not take up the business opportunity she offered.

Album Reading Too Much Into Things Like Everything. The Grass Is Always Greener On The Other Side Lyrics. The grass is always greener on the other side There’s always someone better for you But why waste your time with someone you can’t have? Be glad with what you do. Jimmy was a boy who lived the wrong side of town He was always sweet to me But when it came to other girls I didn’t stand a chance So Jimmy was history

You use this proverb to say that the things other people have or their situations always look better than your own, even when they are not really so. It is often shortened to "The grass is greener on the other side," or even 'The grass is greener. Example: Don't compare your talents with others. The grass is always greener on the other side of the fence. You might think you'd be happy if you were working in my company, but, well, the grass is greener on the other side. Kelly:It's no fair how my friend moved to a bigger city and I live in a small town. She must have so many friends and is probably never bored like I am. Paul:Well Kelly, the grass is always greener on the other side. She may be thinking the same thing about you too. Like. Humans always compare what they have or are in their lives' to what others have or are in their lives. It seems no matter what someone has or is the 'other side' always looks better. Their grass is always greener than yours is the idea. Explained by Ww Ww on Tue, 02/08/2016 - 03:19.
