In 1970, following John Sebastian's 1969 solo performance at Woodstock, Kama Sutra issued the song "Younger Generation" as a single. Sebastian had closed his Woodstock set with the song. In 1976, however, a solo Sebastian scored another No. 1 Hot 100 hit with "Welcome Back", the theme song to the ABC sitcom, Welcome Back, Kotter.

Released simultaneously with the album and included on it were the two songs from the next single, "Nashville Cats," which became the band's seventh consecutive Top Ten entry, and "Full Measure," a B-side featuring drummer Joe Butler on lead vocals that scraped into the singles chart.

Photos, videos, and discographical data chart their best songs. Debut solo album John B. Sebastian charted in the Top 20 when finally distributed in 1970 after almost 18 months of legal wrangling. The songwriter had signed with Sinatra’s Reprise Records, but a loophole in his previous contract with MGM - the distributor of the Spoonful’s Kama Sutra recordings - had MGM claiming they could release his new material. Visiting cities all over the world spreading positive vibes and melodies to younger generations, drummer Mike Arturi - Butler is often up front singing lead vocals or playing autoharp - and guitarist Phil Smith keep the band’s lineup steady.

Younger Generation is found on the album Anthology. Lyrics submitted by SongMeanings. Younger Generation" as written by John Benson Sebastian. Younger Generation song meanings.

John Sebastian - Younger Generation. Tanglewood (Lenox, MA), 07/21/1970. By Paste Magazine January 19, 2011. Following the dissolution of The Lovin' Spoonful, Sebastian received an unexpected kick-start to his solo career, when he became an unscheduled performer on the first day of the legendary Woodstock festival the previous summer. Finally dipping into the material from his new solo album, he establishes a spacey laid back groove for "Magical Connection" and then spontaneously plays "Goin' To Germany," a vintage blues he hadn't explored since his pre-Spoonful days on the Greenwich Village folk circuit. A lovely reading of "Younger Girl" follows, before Sebastian begins encouraging requests. Not surprisingly, he gets several requests for the numbers on the Woodstock album (and his solo album), "Rainbows All Over Your Blues" and "I Had A Dream.
