John B. Sebastian, the son of classical harmonicist John Sebastian, grew up in the Village in contact with music and musicians, including folk musicians who were involved with the American folk music revival of the 1950s through the early 1960s. Sebastian formed the Spoonful with guitarist Zal Yanovsky from a bohemian folk group called The Mugwumps (two other members, Cass Elliot and Denny Doherty, later formed half of the Mamas & the Papas), playing local coffee houses and small clubs  . Additionally, they wrote their own material (aside from a few covers, mostly on their first album), including "Younger Girl" (which missed the Hot 100), which was a hit for The Critters in mid-1966.

Ironically, Sebastian was embroiled in a legal battle with Kama Sutra when this album came out, which makes the company's use of his name here suspect. This is a miscellaneous compilation, and though much of its material is undeniably worthwhile, other compilations have packaged these songs better.

The Lovin' Spoonful is an American rock band of the 1960s, named to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2000. Formation and early years (1964–1965). Pop success (1965–1966). Personnel changes (1967). The final years (1968–1969).

Lovin' Spoonful Henry will talk about his iconic album covers such as the debut album from CSN and Morrison Hotel. Those two stories alone are worth tuning in for. Henry also covered many seismic events such as Woodstock & Monterey Pop. Details coming soon on a release date for an episode you can’t afford to miss heres a video of John telling a story and then they perform "Do You Believe in Magic". Thanks Karl Baker for the video.

The Lovin' Spoonful was one of the most successful pop/rock groups to have jug band and folk roots, and nearly half the songs on their first album were modernized versions of blues standards Their popularity revived interest in the form, and many subsequent jug bands cite them as an inspiration The rest of their albums featured mostly original songs, but their jug. band roots showed up again and again, particularly in "Daydream" and the lesser-known "Money" which only reached in 1968, featuring a typewriter as percussion.

Daydream is the second album by The Lovin' Spoonful, released in 1966. It features two hits, the title track, which reached No. 2 in the . Billboard Top 40 charts, and "You Didn't Have to Be So Nice" (. With only five originals on their debut release, Daydream introduced the rising songwriting talents of lead vocalist John Sebastian who either wrote or co-wrote all the songs on this release except for one cover tune
