Ian T. Foster (born 1959 in Wellington, New Zealand) is a New Zealand-American computer scientist. He is a distinguished fellow, senior scientist, and director of the Data Science and Learning division at Argonne National Laboratory, and a professor in the department of computer science at the University of Chicago. Foster was educated at Wellington College and the University of Canterbury in New Zealand, and Imperial College London.
Ian Foster is familiar with the cycle of a song. Since 2006, the Newfoundland, Canada-born songwriter has been writing, recording and touring his work around Canada and Europe. Ian’s songs are engaging and deeply introspective on record, while his live performance adds both insight and wit to create a dynamic live show: people leave humming a melody and remembering a story. With his latest album The Great Wave, Ian digs deeper into the root of the story and song than ever before. Recorded over five weeks in an open concept house/art gallery in Pouch Cove, NL, the album boasts an impressive array of sounds that use atmosphere and space to bring this broad collection of songs together. The songs themselves tell the story of Ian’s diverse travels since his last album, The Evening Light, was released in 2011.
