The discography of The Animals, an English music group of the 1960s formed in Newcastle upon Tyne, contains 20 studio albums, 6 compilation albums, 5 EPs and 25 singles. Featuring a gritty, bluesy sound and a deep-voiced frontman in Eric Burdon, they are best known for their rendition of an American folk song named "House of the Rising Sun", which is described by many as their signature song.

When ABKCO Records acquired the . rights to the Animals' 1964-1965 recordings produced by Mickie Most, they resurrected the title and artwork (and even the catalog number) of the classic MGM-issued Best of the Animals compilation from 1966. And this is a good collection to start out with the band, though one might do better with EMI's Complete Animals two-CD set of the same label's 2000-vintage The Best of the Animals, both of which include the epic uncut seven-minute version of "Talkin' 'Bout You" (from which the familiar under-two-minute cut was distilled).

According to folklorist Alan Lomax in his book Our Singing Country (1941), the melody of "The House of the Rising Run" is a traditional English ballad and the lyrics were written by Georgia Turner and Bert Martin (both from Kentucky).
